Towards a PhD: Planning for the Coming Week

Day 36: 5/6/2018

I decided to take it slow on working side but still managed to have a lot done today.

This morning I woke up exactly half an hour late from my usual alarm time (6.30). Last night was long and I stayed up late after going out to meet some friends and taking photos in the city. This morning I felt lazy, tired, sluggish and many negative feelings at once. But then there was one feeling that kept yelling at me, “get up and go for a run!” in my head to the point that I needed to really do so.

So, I went off to run around 7.30 and got back around 9. It was such a long tedious run today I first thought to myself. Still, I felt much different after the run.

Then the morning routine took place with a slight change today. I watched so many YouTube videos for a good two hours while having breakfast and afterwards. After a long studious week last week (with some not-productive moments in between last week), I felt like my mind, body and soul was calling for this. So, I gave myself a little break before going out for an important meeting.

It was a perfect day to be out and about today!

We got to walk around the city a bit, enjoyed the nice weather, and got some grocery shopping done in the city center. We then arrived home a little after five, had dinner and relaxed a bit more.

Then, I wanted to try out the strategy I learned from Eat That Frog, planning ahead of time. I literally checked my emails and worked on my schedules for the entire coming week. It took me quite a long time — over 2 hours to be precise — to plan the entire week. I could also feel the need and urge to be more organized in terms of time management.

Here is the finished product of my very first real weekly plan.

Well, it seems like things cannot be set in stone. Next, I will have to learn more about being flexible, I suppose. I am excited about that anyway.

As mentioned in my yesterday’s entry, here are some (unedited) photos from the city center walk.

To honestly evaluate my own performance of the previous week, I would rate myself 7/10. Definitely, the learning curve is steep and I need to still adjust myself a lot in many aspects including time management, sticking to plans, and learning to let of things. These are sure on the list for me to work on in the coming week(s) and I am so ready for it!
