Day 184: 10/1/2018

Yeah, I ran my first 15K today!

I have been running since September last year and it has been a good year so far. However, I never got to run a mini-half or half marathon, and let along a marathon as the majority of my time and attention were devoted on my phd studies. As a result, my usual run distance falls between 7 and 10 kilometers with the longest run at 12K. Last night, P’Gluay told me that he wanted to run his first 21K and I reluctantly convinced him to scale it down to 15K instead. It was a success.

So, last night with that thought of going out for a morning run in mind, we both knew that we needed to be prepared for the next morning. Though we wanted to sleep earlier than usual to ensure that we would get a minimum of 7–8 hours of sleep, we ended up sleeping late and then needed to reschedule our alarm clock from 6.30 to 7.30.

A bad habit dies hard. As soon as my alarm went off, I automatically woke up and put it on snooze. Oh, trust me, I hate myself for this. From 7.30 to 7.45 and finally to 8 am. Before it would ruin our plan, I woke up, got up and went to the bathroom. Though I was mad at myself, I still found it OK to have been able to get up at last.

Unlike our typical routine before our morning run, this morning we took our time and each of us had a latte and we shared a banana. All to ensure that we would survive and reach our goal. We waited until we were ready and went out for a bit after 9.

It was a brisk morning at the temperature of 5 with a real feel of 3 degrees Celsius. Luckily, we both were relatively prepared as P’Gluay wore a heat-tech long-sleeve shirt and I had my running jacket on.

We both wore Adidas Ultraboost. Mine were worn for the first time and they were great for the first run!

After 2 hours and 11 minutes of running and a small amount of walking as for warm up and cool down, I finished my very first 15K run and it felt exhausted and yet incredibly amazing!

The hardest time for my run this time was perhaps the 13rd kilometer while I was tired physically but my heart still wanted to reach the set goal. I remember looking at my watch so often in hope that the distance would keep growing as I run slower and slower.

At the end of the run, I felt like I accomplished something new, something significant, something worth the credit and something I had work hard for. I was pleased with my accomplishment.

After that, P’Gluay and I rushed getting ready for our first home-meeting with our housemates Nutt and Bhak. We went to a restaurant called Source. It was the first time for P’Gluay and me and we both loved it!

The food was excellent, the service wonderful and the price was surprisingly affordable. We each paid 9.25 for this meal. I particularly loved that the ingredients were locally sourced and cooked fresh. Amazing!

Then Nutt took off to school and all three of us went to Costa to have some coffee and do some work before P’Gluay and I headed home around 6.

It was a long, restful, memorable day with so many memories created today.

Self-evaluation on time and life management on this: 8/10

I had set up my workspace successfully after so many failed attempts.
Once this entry is finished, I will work on my tomorrow’s plan.
