Day 289: 1/14/2019

Last night, I spent some time pondering and planning for today. A good sign that things may get better.

Getting Up
This morning though I still got up a bit later than the plan (again), I was glad I did a better job at it. I went directly to the kitchen, did some stretch while waiting for the nespresso to be ready and meditated. I felt amazing having completed it all before getting distracted. YAY!

Productivity
The first task I did, following closely to the plan, was to work on the supervision meeting report. It was a very productive morning that I was able to stay focused and concentrate for a really long time. There were a couple of times that I intentionally skipped short breaks while using the Pomodoro technique.

While finishing the supervision meeting form gave me a delightful feeling, reading through Dr. Louise’s email regarding the ethics form gave me a chill. Knowing that a lot needs to be done before the data collection trip, I did not realize the amount of work remaining until I read her comments in the forms this morning. That is certainly an urgent issue I need to work on and finish by tomorrow.

Academic Career: CVs and Application workshop
Just after noon, I went to school to attend the Academic Career: CVs and Application workshop at Piazza Building in Campus East. I was first reluctant to go because I did not believe I need that in theory since I have secured a position at the university. It turned out to be one of the most useful and practical training workshops I have been to so far. It helped be to better understand the application process and the selection criteria from the employer’s perspective. Additionally, I have also found out that there are many differences with regards to format and content to be included in CVs and applications, especially in academia, in the US, the UK and other regions. I also noticed several things I can improve if I were to apply for a job. Altogether, this is practically helpful for me as a future recruiter as well. All in all, I am glad I took this workshop.

Reflections
The evening was my downtime today. It was allocated for dinner and some minor tasks like Podcast episodes recording. Everything went as planned and I am now ready to go to bed to reestablish my night routine again.

I love how it feels when I was able to complete and follow the plan like today. I know it will be challenging to do it again tomorrow but I believe it would not be too hard for me to do so.
