Day 108: 7/17/2018

I’m back with planning!

Planning is fully back on! I spent some time last night to really jot down things and ideas I had to get done today. Like every time else, planning worked its magic. I was much more organized and could keep track of my own work for the day. I totally, wholeheartedly love planning.

two things I can’t live without now: my simple daily planner and my to-do-list

Well, in fact, I did not really follow the plan strictly. There were also things I changed as the day went on. First off, I woke up one hour and a half late than my original plan. Second of all, my online teaching was rescheduled to another day. Thirdly, I needed to meet a friend in the evening and this was something that came up later in the day. However, none of these things ruined my day plan. As I woke up late, I planned to work for a few more hours in the evening and I did. (Even though not really for a few good hours, I still did some work to compensate those lost hours.) For the second and third matter, I just needed to move things around a bit to fit my ongoing day and everything was fine. There is always room for flexibility, to me.

With respect to the work today, my original plan was to read and write some ideas regarding the readings I have read recently. I thus spent some time reviewing my notes, the literature review list I have made while reading, and my to-do list from the past supervision meeting. At the end of the day, I finished organizing my notes, read two papers-Chapter 13 and Engin (2016) (which was not originally included in the plan), and started reading the key article in my area of interest, Michaels, O’Connor, and Resnick (2008).

At this point, things have started to come together and I can start to see the better picture of my area of interest a bit better and clearer. It is like putting together a jigsaw puzzle which I had no idea when I first started seeing different pieces scattered and fragmented. Now, it is not yet that clear, visible, let alone it being obvious asI am still struggling to figure things out but I have to say that it is coming along pretty OK.

One problem I have now is my speed. Recently, I have found that my speed might not be fast enough to get things done in time given quite a great amount of reading and writing I need to finish in the next seven weeks. Therefore, I should do something to keep me focus and my pace at getting things done faster. This may include putting my phone on (seriously) flight mode and turning off the wifi connection on my laptop. These will certainly help me stay stick with work more efficiently and effectively. Hopefully. :)
