Day 236: 11/22/2018
I took a role that was totally new to me and it felt incredible!
I was worried about the supervision meeting today with a thought that I did not accomplish or had done enough. Thus, this morning I got up (well, an hour later than the original plan) to finalize my notes for the meeting. Two hours passed and I was relieved knowing that I had done quite a lot of things since the previous meeting.
I got ready, left for the University and arrived there early to have some time to meditate and have a banana.
Here came the time of the actual meeting, I did not know what to do at first but since I was the one who held the agenda, I took an initiative role and sort of conduct the meeting myself. I did not do anything fancy like a professor like Jan would do. Rather, I only reported my progress using the prepared notes.
In our meeting today, I felt much more relaxed as it progressed. There were times that we stopped to discuss concerns and exchange ideas but all was in a productive manner. I like the fact that Jan led me take a bit of an initiative role with her appropriate intervention when necessary. To me, this was surely a result of several training workshops I have attended combined.
Besides that I had an opportunity to ask several questions I had not dare to ask before.
I also shared a bit of my personal life including moving, living, and the new internship with the Global Engagement. Jan seemed to be very pleased and she also expressed it verbally and nonverbally. I could feel that it has been a long day for her and she has been extremely busy lately. At the end, we hugged. It was such a wonderful connection.
I left the room feeling elated with joy. Something new happened. Perhaps our relationship has gone professionally up to a higher level.
Of course, looking back on what happened today, I realized a number of flaw and several ways to improve them such as the following:
I should email the agenda, questions, or concerns to Jan in advance (7 days ahead the meeting day if possible).
I want to do even better the next time I meet Jan.
