Towards a PhD: A Pop of an Idea

Day 71: 6/10/2018

I just finished jotting down a decent idea for my proposal!

Realizing my two desires, I booked two roundtrip tickets to Newcastle a while back. It was one of the best decisions I had made in a few months!

P’Gluay and I spent a whole day traveling, eating, sightseeing, and shopping in Newcastle from morning till dusk. We took a morning train from York and with one only sole purpose in mind, to have a good Japanese meal, which unfortunately, is not available in York. :( There we went, had some good sushi and enjoyed ourselves and our no-work-related conversations for the day.

It was a fun relaxing day after a long while. I did not realize how much my body and mind had missed this kind of day.

Once we arrived back in York in the evening, P’Gluay and I took a long way home from the station so that we could pass by York Minster at dusk. Surprisingly, it was a calm, peaceful Sunday evening. There were not many people walking in the city itself as unlike Friday and Saturday nights usual scene. We took a few more photos while walking through the city back home. It was so much fun.

As soon as we arrived back home, we had late dinner and chilled out even more. I chose to watch a movie while P’Gluay surfed the internet.

An idea came to me at an unexpected time, while I was in the shower. Out of the blue, I let my though flow randomly and it somehow managed to land on my recent readings. Then popped a connection between several ideas I have been trying to work on.

At this point, as I just finished scribbling it down in my notebook with my super sloppy handwriting, I did not know who or what I should be thankful for between a legit work-free day-off, my along shower time, or myself to have let this kind of day happen. Maybe it was the result of everything combined.

Clearly, I now have something to look forward to the first thing when I get up tomorrow morning. Plus, considering the amount of time I have before the next submission deadline, I should work at my best ability to develop a recent idea to its fullest, well of my best ability I should say. Days 72–80 of my PhD journey are turning to more interesting days (again)!
