Becoming KruYing: Part 1

A lot of people know me in person from work and other related networks while others first met me online via social media platforms, especially on my Facebook page where everyone, even my old friends from Pratom, calls me ‘KruYing’.

Only a few people knew that I never wanted to be a teacher growing up. I always wanted to be something more exciting and adventurous. Nevertheless, I chose to study education majoring in English for my undergrad.

Four years in college taught me so much. Not only I learned about life, friends, society, but more importantly, about myself. I learned that I actually loved teaching pretty late when I was a student teacher during the last year of college.

a careful draft of a lesson plan

This is one of countless lesson plans I had to come up as a student teacher teaching 6 classes of Matayom 2 students (equivalent to 8th graders). Each and every week I spent a number of hours designing lessons, handcrafting class materials, and grading my students’ work. Yes, it was a lot of work considering I was just a student teacher. But it was worth every piece of work I did.

another draft

Looking at these lesson plans closely, you might be able to see, tell or guess how much effort I put into them. In attempt to best engage my (wild) young teen students, I tried to incorporate what were related to their teen lives. It was not an easy job having to imagine you were an early teenagers again.

It was not easy to become ‘KruYing’.

To be continued.
